Disappearing "Plum cover"

The Laifeng County of Hubei Province, which borders Hubei Xuan En, Hunan Longshan and Chongqing Yongjiang, is one of the densest settlements of Tujia. In Xiangfeng Township, Laifeng County, there is a women’s team of up to 1,000 people who are professionally weaving the Tujia “Silankapu”. They have enabled this rumored Tujia folk art to be passed on.

“Silankapu” is a Tujia language. Translating it into Chinese means “blossoming”. It is a Tujia girl on an ancient wooden “waist” and uses cotton yarn as a warp. Each kind of colored thick thread and velvet thread is Weft, reverse hand-woven craftsmanship. "Silankapu" has more than 200 kinds of traditional patterns, vivid shapes, rough patterns, simple, full of rich local flavor and strong ethnic characteristics. Weaving “Silankapu” was once one of the basic life skills that Tujia girls must master. Nowadays, “Silankapu” hand-knitted by Tujia women has lost its inherent use as a household article for Tujia people, becoming a mountain. Foreign tourists feel the collection of Tujia culture.
