sew + tell: todd’s all day shirts

Sure, here's the rewritten content: ---

It’s not every day that we highlight adult men on our blog, so I thought it would be fun to bring Todd into the spotlight. Although Todd doesn’t sew (I still can't figure out why he hasn’t picked up a needle yet!), he does get sewn for, and that’s certainly worth mentioning, isn’t it?

Todd's Liesl + Co All-Day Shirt in windowpane check

Liesl + Co. All Day Shirt

Name: Liesl (because, well, I’m the one who made them!)
Where can we find you on the internet? Right here, naturally. And also over here and here and here.

Project Details

Pattern used: Liesl + Co All Day Men’s Shirt
Fabric used: Cotton shirting fabric: oxford and windowpane yarn-dye, both sourced locally

Did the fabric work well? Oh yes, absolutely! The two fabrics had quite distinct weights. The oxford is robust and substantial, perfect for cooler weather, whereas the windowpane is incredibly lightweight and smooth. It’ll be ideal for summertime but also works beautifully as a layering piece during the winter months.

How did the sewing go? I thoroughly enjoyed making these! To speed things up, I sewed both shirts simultaneously, treating it like an assembly line. Using white thread for both saved me time and kept everything cohesive. On a whim, I decided to cut the windowpane collar, pocket, front placket, and sleeve cuffs on the bias, just to play around with the design. (Initially, I even tried cutting the yoke on the bias, but after a while, it felt a bit excessive, so I repurposed the bias yoke as the yoke lining instead.)

Liesl + Co. All Day Shirt, back

What was the best part? These shirts were a Christmas surprise for Todd, and he was genuinely taken aback by the gesture. With limited time to work on the project, I managed to fit in small bursts of sewing whenever possible—just a few seams here and there each evening. I intentionally worked on them right in front of him without trying to keep it a secret, but he insists he had no clue I was making them. I suppose that’s what happens when your loved ones see you constantly immersed in various projects—they stop asking questions!
