"Outdoor Landscape Decoration Wood" Standard Seminar Held in Beijing

Recently, five timber standards review, such as the "Rawwood Timber Specification" and the "Landscape Decoration Wood for Outdoor Use" standard seminar, were held at the International Bamboo and Rattan Network Center. Industry-related experts, scholars and members of the business community attended the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Fei Benhua, the secretary general of the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee and deputy director of the International Bamboo and Rattan Network Center. The Director of the Standards Division of the Science and Technology Department of the State Forestry Administration attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The deputy secretary-general of the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee Min Huaqiang made a report on the 2010 Work Summary of the National Timber Standardization Technical Committee and the 2011 Work Plan.

The meeting was conducted on 1 National Standard for "Material Specification for Redwood Products" and "Measurement Method for Impact Indentation of Wood", "Indoor Test Method for Toxicity of Wood Preservatives to Soft Rot Fungi", "Heterocellulose Content of Wood, Acid Insoluble Wood Four forestry industry standards, such as NIR spectroscopy for determination of pigment content and "Qualitative analysis procedures for near-infrared spectroscopy of wood," were reviewed.

At the standard review meeting, the heads of the drafting groups detailed their respective standards preparation instructions and collected comments and handling. The standards review committees fully affirmed the large amount of work done by the drafting groups in the standardization and revision process, and conducted serious geological consultations on the major technical issues and standard texts that existed in the “drafts for review” of various standards. Discussed, and put forward many opinions and suggestions on the further improvement of the standard.

Lastly, five standards including “Standards for Timber of Redwood Products” and “Measurement Methods for Impact Indentation of Wood” were reviewed and the drafting team was requested to modify and improve the corresponding standards according to the minutes of the standard review meeting, and complete the standard approval draft as soon as possible. In addition, the conference also discussed the “Wood for outdoor landscape decoration”, the scope of forestry industry standards, standard frameworks, and standard content.
