Statistics from the Statistics and Census Service of Macau indicated that the average comprehensive consumer price index for 2010 was 104.25 and the annual inflation rate was 2.81%. The increase in inflation was mainly driven by rising prices of meals for meals, men's and women's wear, fresh fish and seafood, gasoline, gold ornaments, vegetables and LPG, which together pushed up the inflation rate by 1.9 percentage points.
In 2010, the most significant increase in the price index was in clothing and footwear (+6.51%), transportation (+6.30%), miscellaneous goods and services (+6.13%), food and non-alcoholic beverages. (+4.73%), alcohol and tobacco (+4.72%) and medical treatment (+4.39%);
On the other hand, the price index on education and communication dropped by 7.27% and 3.49% respectively compared with 2009.
The average consumer price index for category A and B in 2010 was 103.77 and 104.38, up by 2.28% and 2.97% from 2009 respectively.
