新石器

Neolithic Neolithic Red Mountain Culture

Unearthed in Samsung Tara, Wengniute Banner, Inner Mongolia, 1971

26 cm high

The jade dragon is made of dark green jade and jade carvings. The whole body is smooth and clean, and the head minister kisses and repairs the eyes. The dragonfly flies and the body curls. The shape is vivid, exquisitely carved, and has the reputation of “China's first dragon”.

In the Neolithic Age, many dragon-like remains were found in many ruins, either for sculpt, for painting, or for sculpture. Regarding the prototype of the dragon, the researchers have proposed various hypotheses such as snakes, crocodiles, lizards, fish, crickets, horses, cows, pigs, deer, bears, tigers, silkworms, crickets, pine trees, clouds, lightning, and so on. The "Dragon" in the oracle bones of the Shang Dynasty and the Yulong unearthed from the Tomb of the Women's Tomb show that the dragon is a giant, horned, large-mouthed, curved body. The cultural relics that best meet these characteristics in the Neolithic Age should belong to this kind of scorpion jade dragon in Hongshan culture. The Lingshan Beach in Anhui Hanshan and the Xiaojia ridge in Tianmen in Hubei also have similar images of Yulong, which may be the original form of the dragon.

There are different opinions about the origin of the dragon. Lizard said that the crocodile said that as for the dragon head, there is a saying from the head of the horse, the head of the cow or the head of the pig. This jade dragon is one of the images of the early dragons that China has discovered. From its first feature, the snout is long, the nose is protruding, and the upper edge is curled up. The end face is truncated and there are 2 side holes. It seems to have a pig head feature. This jade dragon is made of black and green jade, with a fine finish and a high artistic value.
